A perfect morning dawned in Gatton on Saturday 03 August 2013 with light winds and moderate temperatures for the 31st running of the upperlimb.com Cunningham Classic.
WIth registration open from 7:30am and racing commencing 9:00am, there was plenty of time for the wind speed to pick-up and it became apparent that the strong westerly winds which have been been uncharacteristically missing in the last few years were set to make their return to the race.
Riders enjoyed reasonably moderate conditions on their way from the start line at Dennis Minson Drive in Gatton to the top of the Main Range for the Avantiplus The Valley King of the Mountain however from there, the westerly wind blowing across the continental plateau made descending a decelerating experience and the going tough.
The upperlimb.com Cunningham Classic has earned its reputation as Queensland's toughest and most prestigious one-day road race classic with a combination of a challenging course and tough conditions. To simply finish the race is an impressive feat, and to earn one of the prizes on offer guarantees a rider admiration from their peers.
Kangaroo Point Cycling Club would like to extend a sincere thank-you to Cycling Queensland, Commissaires, volunteers, riders and supporters of the 31st running of the upperlimb.com Cunningham Classic.
